Travel Insurance Exposure & Claim Payout Method, Formula & Examples
On this page
This method guide explains the calculation sequence behind the Travel Insurance Exposure & Claim Payout Calculator. It owns formulas, input definitions, timing, rounding and reference checks; the calculator remains the only page that performs the numeric scenario.
Calculation sequence
Each loss is capped at its entered coverage limit. The calculator sums those category amounts, then subtracts the entered deductible and other recoveries before comparing payment with total entered loss.
Inputs and evidence
Use current written documents for every material input. The calculator supports: Market and currency, Eligible cancellation or interruption loss, Eligible emergency medical loss, Eligible evacuation loss, Eligible baggage loss, Cancellation/interruption limit, Emergency medical limit, Evacuation limit, Baggage limit, Applicable deductible or excess, Airline, card, supplier or other reimbursements.
Reference example
If baggage loss is 1,000 but its limit is 500, 500 is exposed before deductible. Across 16,000 total entered loss, the sample limits, 250 deductible and 500 other recovery produce a 14,750 modeled payout.
Boundary and error checks
Test zero-rate branches where available, minimum and maximum supported inputs, and a scenario in which the main result reverses. Reject blank, non-finite or out-of-range values rather than silently substituting them.
Model boundary
The tool does not determine whether an event is covered, estimate premium, interpret policy law, convert currencies, approve evacuation, value baggage or coordinate benefits.
