Formula definitionUnit-normalized calculationFormula v1.0.0

What is calculated

Protein from body weight, selected carbohydrate grams, and the fat remainder.

Method

Apply 4 kcal/g to protein and carbohydrate, then convert remaining calories to fat at 9 kcal/g.

Important boundary

Paleo definitions vary and frequently exclude entire food groups; macro arithmetic cannot test nutrient adequacy.

Result actions
1
Set caloriesStart from a separately selected daily energy target.Keep the upstream estimate visible.
2
Apply explicit macrosCalculate protein by weight and reserve entered carbohydrate. No fixed pattern ratio is imposed.
3
Calculate the remainderConvert remaining calories to fat.Non-positive remainders are rejected.

Interpretation

g/day is the remaining fat for the entered assumptions.

The pattern still depends on food choices and nutrient coverage.

No universal ratio or health outcome is claimed.

Verify unit parity, 4/4/9 allocation, calorie conservation, remainder validation, and boundary content.

These records describe the published model and reference tests. A test-case count is not a certification of every possible input or an independent specialist review. Editorial policy

Known limitations

  • There is no universally accepted Paleo macro ratio.
  • Excluding grains, legumes, or dairy can affect fiber and micronutrient intake.
  • Evidence remains heterogeneous and does not establish superiority for every outcome.
  • The tool does not assess food quality or dietary adequacy.

What the Paleo Macro Calculator answers

Build a whole-food Paleo-style macro scenario without pretending that one 30/30/40 ratio defines every Paleo diet.

The calculation uses user-controlled inputs and reports the full allocation without treating the diet label as proof of quality or adequacy.

How to use the Paleo Macro Calculator

  1. Enter daily calories and body weight.
  2. Choose a protein factor.
  3. Enter carbohydrate grams from the actual food plan.
  4. Review the resulting fat remainder and evidence limits.

Formula, variables and calculation order

protein g = weight x selected g/kg.

fat g = (calories - protein g x 4 - carbohydrate g x 4) / 9.

Worked example and boundary check

Worked scenario

At 2,200 kcal, 80 kg, 1.6 g/kg protein, and 200 g carbohydrate, protein is 128 g and the remaining fat is 98.7 g.

Boundary check

An allocation with no positive calorie remainder is rejected instead of producing a negative macro.

How to interpret the result

The result is one auditable macro scenario. The diet-pattern label does not validate food quality, adherence, or individual safety.

Frequently asked questions

Is 30/30/40 the official Paleo ratio?

No. Published and popular Paleo definitions vary, so this calculator does not impose one ratio.

Why enter carbohydrate grams?

Actual Paleo-style food choices can produce very different carbohydrate intakes.

Does Paleo require high protein?

No single g/kg factor defines the pattern; the input stays editable.

Does the tool assess calcium or fiber?

No. Excluding food groups can change nutrient intake and requires a separate food-level review.

Is Paleo proven superior?

Evidence is limited and heterogeneous; the calculator makes no superiority claim.

Primary sources and evidence limits

Sources were checked 2026-10-04. They support the calculation method or its evidence boundary; they do not turn a planning scenario into medical nutrition advice.
