Protein per Meal Guide
On this page
Start with a daily range, then divide it across the number of meals and snacks you normally eat. The result is a planning average, not a biological on/off switch.
Calculate your daily amount with the Protein Calculator.
Simple formula
average protein per eating occasion = daily protein รท number of occasions
| Daily target | 3 occasions | 4 occasions | 5 occasions |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90 g | 30 g | 22.5 g | 18 g |
| 120 g | 40 g | 30 g | 24 g |
| 150 g | 50 g | 37.5 g | 30 g |
Equal versus flexible distribution
Equal portions are easy to plan, but meals do not need to match exactly. A 120 g day might be 25 g at breakfast, 35 g at lunch, 45 g at dinner, and 15 g in a snack.
Sports context
ISSN discusses roughly 20โ40 g of high-quality protein per feeding in many exercise settings. Body size, source quality, mixed meals, age, and total daily intake matter. Do not use 40 g as a universal absorption limit; dietary protein above a single threshold is still digested and used by the body.
Practical checks
Count food servings using labels or reliable food data, then allow for normal variation. Review High-Protein Foods Chart for approximate values.
