For a treadmill ruck, enter body mass, backpack load, belt speed, displayed incline, and moving duration. Select the firm surface or treadmill terrain factor of 1.0.
Treadmill inputs: direct answer
Use treadmill belt speed as average moving speed, the console incline as percent grade, backpack mass as pack load, and the active walking interval as moving duration. The calculator supports level and uphill walking only.
Convert treadmill settings carefully
Treadmills commonly show speed in mph or km/h and incline as a percent. Enter a displayed 5% incline as 5, not 0.05. The calculator normalizes speed to meters per second before applying the equation.
Use the rucking pace chart when you need to convert minutes per mile.
Enter pack load separately
Enter body weight in the body-weight field and backpack mass in the pack-load field. Do not enter their combined total. A weighted vest should not be assumed equivalent because its load distribution differs from a backpack.
Read the output as a model estimate
The result is total modeled metabolic energy, including the equation’s standing-energy term. It does not use heart rate or measure movement economy, pack fit, heat stress, or individual response.
