What this calculator answers
Compound growth applies returns to the accumulated balance, while recurring contributions often account for most of the result in early years.
Show how principal, recurring contributions, time and a user-entered rate combine.
Method and calculation order
The model converts the entered effective annual rate to an equivalent monthly rate, compounds the opening amount and adds end-of-month contributions. It separates contributed principal from modeled growth.
Worked reference example
With 10,000 initially, 500 per month for ten years and a zero return, the result is 70,000: 10,000 starting principal plus 60,000 of contributions.
How to use the result
Compare no-growth, conservative and optimistic rates. Focus on controllable contributions and fees rather than a single projected return.
What the calculator cannot know
Constant returns smooth volatility and sequence risk. The result is not a forecast, quote, deposit guarantee or investment recommendation.
Frequently asked questions
Is the entered return guaranteed?
No. Use multiple rates, including adverse scenarios.
Are taxes included?
No. Enter a rate that matches the scenario you want to test and account for tax separately.
