Direct answer

For Pakistan Tax Year 2027 (FY 2026-27), annual taxable salary uses eight progressive bands enacted by Finance Act 2026. The prior 9% salaried surcharge above PKR 10,000,000 was replaced with the statutory wording that no surcharge is payable for salaried income under this provision.

Method and required inputs

Apply these annual bands: up to PKR 600,000: 0%; over 600,000 to 1,200,000: 1% of excess over 600,000; over 1,200,000 to 2,200,000: PKR 6,000 + 11% of excess over 1,200,000; over 2,200,000 to 3,200,000: PKR 116,000 + 20% of excess over 2,200,000; over 3,200,000 to 4,100,000: PKR 316,000 + 25% of excess over 3,200,000; over 4,100,000 to 5,600,000: PKR 541,000 + 29% of excess over 4,100,000; over 5,600,000 to 7,000,000: PKR 976,000 + 32% of excess over 5,600,000; over 7,000,000: PKR 1,424,000 + 35% of excess over 7,000,000.

Worked example

At annual taxable salary of PKR 6,000,000, the applicable band is PKR 976,000 + 32% of the PKR 400,000 above PKR 5,600,000. Tax is PKR 976,000 + PKR 128,000 = PKR 1,104,000 before any separately supportable credit or adjustment. No salaried surcharge is added for TY2027.

Assumptions and limitations

This educational calculation assumes the entered amount is annual taxable salary and does not determine salary composition, exemptions, credits, employer withholding reconciliation, other heads of income, residency, filing status, or an FBR assessment. Use the enacted law and qualified advice for a return.

Checks and common errors

  • Select Tax Year 2027 / FY 2026-27.
  • Use annual taxable salary, not gross monthly cash without annualization and tax treatment.
  • Apply the fixed amount plus the marginal rate only to income above the band threshold.

Frequently asked questions

Is all salary taxed at the highest marginal rate?

No. The fixed amount captures tax from earlier bands, and the current marginal percentage applies only to the portion above that band threshold.
