Direct answer

Age in weeks is the exact elapsed-day interval divided into completed seven-day blocks plus the remaining days.

The result includes completed weeks, days after the last full week, decimal weeks for comparison, and the underlying day total.

Formula and method

Completed weeks = floor(total elapsed days / 7); remaining days = total elapsed days mod 7.

The calculation first finds exact elapsed days from the two calendar dates. It then separates that integer into seven-day groups and a remainder from zero through six. Decimal weeks are total days divided by seven and are shown only as a supporting value.

Worked example

January 1 to January 11 is 10 elapsed days. That equals 1 completed week and 3 days, or about 1.4286 weeks. The completed-week answer is not rounded to two weeks.

Leap years, month ends, and other edge cases

Leap years are handled by actual calendar dates, so February can contribute 28 or 29 days. Calendar years and months are completed units; total days are an elapsed-midnight count. For a February 29 birth date, a legal or institutional birthday rule may differ from pure date arithmetic in a non-leap year.

Choose the right age result

Use this page for weekly milestones or a "weeks old" result. For neonatal terminology, use postmenstrual age or corrected age only when that specific clinical term is intended.

Limits and responsible use

This is chronological time since birth in seven-day units. It is not gestational age, corrected age, or postmenstrual age, and it does not interpret growth or development.

Frequently asked questions

Do you round partial weeks up?

No. The primary result shows completed weeks and preserves the remaining days.

How is the decimal-week value calculated?

It is total elapsed days divided by seven and rounded only for display.

Is age in weeks the same as corrected age?

No. Corrected age subtracts the amount of prematurity; ordinary week age does not.

Are calendar months converted to four weeks?

No. The tool starts from exact elapsed days, so variable month lengths do not create an error.
