    What this calculator answers

An emergency fund should reflect the expenses that continue during disruption and the deductibles or urgent costs that can arrive at the same time.

Size a user-defined emergency reserve without prescribing one universal number.

    Method and calculation order

The tool totals eight essential monthly categories, multiplies by the user-selected horizon and adds entered deductible and one-time buffers. Current coverage months reserve those one-time amounts first.

    Worked reference example

If essentials total 2,000 per month, a three-month target plus 1,500 of one-time buffers equals 7,500. With 4,500 saved, the gap is 3,000.

    How to use the result

Choose a horizon based on income stability, dependants, insurance, access to paid leave and other liquidity. Keep the target separate from predictable sinking funds.

Open the decision and evidence guide.

    What the calculator cannot know

The tool does not prescribe a universal month count, model investment losses, determine benefit eligibility or replace a cash-flow plan.

    Frequently asked questions

    Should deductibles be included?

Include deductibles or excesses you may need to pay quickly and cannot comfortably fund elsewhere.

Do credit cards count as emergency savings?

This calculator counts only the liquid savings you enter; borrowing capacity is not cash.
