SSA announced a 3.6% COLA for 2027 on October 14, 2026. A $2,000 gross monthly benefit produces a simple gross estimate of $2,072, an increase of $72 per month or $864 across 12 months. Your official amount can differ because SSA applies the COLA to the primary insurance amount, then applies benefit factors, offsets and statutory rounding.
For a claiming-age decision rather than a one-year increase, use the Social Security Break-Even Calculator.
The copy button keeps the amount, assumptions and Medicare-completeness warning together.
The planning formula is 2027 gross estimate = current gross benefit x (1 + 0.036). The monthly increase is the difference between that estimate and the entered current gross amount. Annual figures multiply the monthly estimate by 12.
SSA explains that the exact process is more complex: the agency increases the primary insurance amount, truncates at specified stages, applies early or delayed retirement factors and offsets, and then applies lower-dollar rounding to the final payment. That is why this page uses the word estimate and links to the personalized notice.
A COLA percentage does not determine the Medicare Part B premium. SSA said Medicare changes and each enrollee's new premium would be available later through Medicare.gov and the personalized COLA notice. The calculator therefore does not convert a projection into a false final value.
When no 2027 Part B amount is entered, the output says before Medicare Part B. After an amount is entered, the tool calculates the net comparison and labels it as based on the user-entered premium.
Read Social Security taxes, Medicare and net benefits before treating a gross benefit as spendable income.
SSA permits voluntary federal withholding at 7%, 10%, 12% or 22%. The tool applies the selected percentage to each gross monthly estimate. Withholding is a payment toward federal income tax, not a calculation of how much of a household's Social Security is taxable and not a final tax-return result.
Suppose the current gross benefit is $2,095. Multiplying by 1.036 gives a $2,170.42 gross planning estimate, a $75.42 monthly increase and a $905.04 annual increase. Those figures align with SSA's statement that the average retirement benefit would rise by about $75 per month, but an individual notice can differ.
If the current Part B deduction is $202.90, no other deductions apply and no federal tax is withheld, the current net estimate is $1,892.10. The 2027 net should not be finalized until a 2027 Part B amount is entered.
Use the gross increase for a first-pass budget. Use the net comparison only after all relevant deductions are entered. IRMAA, Part D, overpayment recovery, garnishment, tax liability, family-benefit adjustments and other benefit rules remain outside this worksheet. The exact dollar amounts and payment dates on the SSA notice control.

SSA announced a 3.6% COLA on October 14, 2026.
Social Security beneficiaries generally see the increase in January 2027. SSI increases begin with the December 31, 2026 payment, according to SSA.
SSA applies the COLA to the PIA and uses benefit factors, offsets and statutory rounding. Your current deposited check may also already be net of Medicare and other deductions.
No. It uses only the amount you enter and otherwise labels the 2027 amount before Part B.
