Direct answer

Assessment age starts with exact chronological age on the assessment date; any rounding or truncation must come from the current test manual or scoring system.

Select exact Y;M;D unless your governing source explicitly requires a different policy. The selected rule remains visible beside the result so a rounded answer cannot masquerade as raw age.

Formula and method

Exact Y;M;D first; then apply exact, nearest-month-at-16-days, or completed-month display policy.

The calendar engine calculates exact years, months, and days. Exact mode returns all three components. Nearest-month mode adds one month only when the remaining day component is 16 or more and carries 12 months into the next year. Completed-month mode removes the remaining day component without rounding.

Worked example

January 1, 2015 to December 20, 2026 is exactly 11;11;19. Under the stated 16-day nearest-month policy, 19 days rounds the month upward and the result carries to 12;00. Completed-month mode instead reports 11;11.

Leap years, month ends, and other edge cases

A day remainder of 15 stays in the current month under the 16-day policy; 16 rounds upward. When month 11 rounds up, the result carries to month 00 of the next year. These controls are calculation aids, not claims that Pearson, WISC, CELF, BRIGANCE, or another publisher universally uses one rule.

Check the manual before choosing a policy

Use exact Y;M;D when the source asks for chronological age by calendar subtraction. Choose a rounded policy only when the current publisher instructions say to do so. Official pages show that products and platforms differ, so CalculatorGeek deliberately avoids a one-rule-fits-all brand page.
