For 2026-27, an Australian resident employee on AUD 85,000 with the standard single Medicare threshold, no deductions and no HELP debt has modeled annual take-home pay of AUD 67,280. Super is shown separately and is not deducted from cash salary when it is paid on top.
Calculate Australian take-home pay for 2026-27 from annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly or hourly wages, including salary packages with super, income tax, Medicare levy and HELP.
Use the Australian pay and tax calculator hub to choose the next calculation without repeating the same intent.
Separate cash salary from an inclusive super package when selected, then calculate annual gross - salary sacrifice - resident income tax after LITO - Medicare levy - compulsory HELP repayment.
The calculation is versioned for the Australian 2026-27 financial year. The result panel keeps the period and source status visible so a value is not detached from the rules that produced it.
To compare this result with another relevant method, open the Australian Annual Leave Calculator. Use this related calculation when its inputs match the next part of your problem.
AUD 85,000 gross produces AUD 16,020 income tax plus AUD 1,700 Medicare levy, leaving AUD 67,280 before other payroll adjustments.
Working precision is retained through the method. Displayed currency is rounded only at the final output unless the ATO payroll schedule itself requires whole-dollar rounding.
The calculator starts with the pay frequency you select, converts that amount to annual cash salary and then applies the 2026-27 resident individual income-tax brackets. It shows income tax after the low income tax offset, the simplified Medicare levy, an optional compulsory HELP repayment and employer super as separate values. Monthly, fortnightly and weekly take-home equivalents all come from the same annual result, so the figures reconcile instead of using different tax shortcuts.
The primary result is annual spendable pay after the selected salary sacrifice and modeled tax liabilities. It does not subtract rent, debt payments, insurance, union fees or other personal expenses. For a cash-flow view after those costs, continue to the Australian Budget Planner.
Australian resident income tax is progressive. Moving into a higher bracket does not apply the higher rate to every dollar; only the part inside that bracket uses the bracket rate. The calculator retains working precision through each band and applies the low income tax offset before displaying resident income tax.
| 2026-27 taxable income | Resident income tax before offsets |
|---|---|
| AUD 0 to AUD 18,200 | Nil |
| AUD 18,201 to AUD 45,000 | 15 cents for each dollar over AUD 18,200 |
| AUD 45,001 to AUD 135,000 | AUD 4,020 plus 30 cents for each dollar over AUD 45,000 |
| AUD 135,001 to AUD 190,000 | AUD 31,020 plus 37 cents for each dollar over AUD 135,000 |
| Over AUD 190,000 | AUD 51,370 plus 45 cents for each dollar over AUD 190,000 |
The displayed bracket rate excludes Medicare, HELP and offset phase-outs. That is why the calculator also reports an effective liability rate based on the full modeled result. Read the 2026-27 Australian income-tax rates guide for the boundaries and worked examples.
One annual salary can be expressed across several planning periods: annual divided by 12 for an average month, by 26 for a fortnight and by 52 for a week. These are annual-liability equivalents, not promises about the exact amount on a particular payslip. Calendar months have different numbers of days, some financial years contain an extra weekly or fortnightly payday, and employer withholding uses ATO payroll schedules and rounding.
Use the selected-period result for budgeting and compare it with the three equivalent outputs. For the amount an employer may withhold from one pay run, use the Australian PAYG Withholding Calculator. For an hourly offer with overtime or unpaid weeks, use the Hourly to Salary Calculator. The Australian pay-frequency guide explains when each conversion factor is appropriate.
If an offer says “plus super”, leave the package setting at “No”. The entered amount is treated as cash salary and statutory super is added separately. If the offer says “total remuneration package” or “including super”, select “Yes”. The calculator separates the cash salary before calculating income tax, using the 12% statutory rate and the 2026-27 annual maximum earnings base.
For an inclusive package below the maximum earnings base, cash salary equals package divided by 1.12. For example, an AUD 112,000 package including statutory super separates into AUD 100,000 cash salary and AUD 12,000 super. Above the maximum earnings base, the statutory component is capped in this estimate. Awards, agreements or contracts can require more than the statutory minimum. Use the Superannuation Calculator or the 2026-27 super guarantee guide to inspect that calculation directly.
This order matters. A deduction can reduce taxable income, while a reportable super contribution may still be included in HELP repayment income. The Salary Sacrifice Calculator isolates that trade-off.
This page estimates annual tax liability from annualised facts. Payroll software calculates PAYG withholding for each pay run using ATO schedules, declarations and statutory rounding. The two methods answer related but different questions. Differences can also arise from bonuses, multiple jobs, a tax-free-threshold declaration, irregular pay, deductions that payroll does not know about, private-health adjustments and final tax-return information.
Use the PAYG withholding versus income tax guide to follow the distinction. Use the Australian Tax Return Calculator only when you want to compare entered withholding with a simplified annual liability estimate. None of these tools replaces a lodged return or an employer payroll record.

Each route owns a distinct calculation. CalculatorGeek deliberately keeps weekly, fortnightly, monthly and take-home modes together here rather than publishing separate pages that repeat the same annual-liability method.
The current model is for an Australian resident individual in the 2026-27 financial year. It does not calculate every tax-return item, Medicare levy surcharge, private-health rebate, foreign-resident or working-holiday-maker rates, seniors and pensioners tax offset, spouse adjustments, fringe-benefit add-backs, complex investment income, payroll-specific allowances or award classification. Family selection changes only the simplified Medicare threshold basis described beside the field.
Rates and thresholds are versioned rather than silently reused. The page exposes its effective date, source links, model version, formula, test fixture and review status. The CalculatorGeek Editorial Team approved this release after JavaScript/PHP parity tests, browser checks and source review; future rate changes must repeat those gates. That release discipline is more important than making an unsupported “exact payslip” claim.
Main boundary: This annual liability estimate is not an exact pay-run withholding amount or a completed tax return. The super estimate applies the 2026-27 annual maximum earnings base of AUD 270,830; contracts can provide more. Use the PAYG calculator for Schedule 1 withholding.
Keep gross pay, tax liability, payroll withholding, Medicare, study-loan repayments, super and employment entitlements separate. They answer different questions even when they appear on the same payslip.

No. Statutory Australian inputs and results stay in AUD so exchange-rate conversion cannot be mistaken for an Australian tax calculation.
Yes. The formula, worked example, calculation bridge, model version and primary sources are visible on the page.
Sources checked 2026-10-15. Rates, thresholds, awards and legislation can change. The page states the 2026-27 period explicitly and should be rechecked before each financial-year release.
Publishing status: CalculatorGeek Editorial Team verified and approved the Australian wage and pay cluster on 2026-10-15. The release retains its visible financial-year, resident-tax, payroll, award, jurisdiction, estimate and professional-advice boundaries; production canonical, cache, sitemap and rollback checks remain deployment gates.
