What this calculator answers
A useful contents limit starts with what comparable items would cost to replace today. This tool totals nine categories, compares the result with the written limit and keeps high-value sublimits visible.
Build a privacy-first category inventory and compare user-entered replacement values with a contents coverage limit.
Method and calculation order
Category replacement values are summed without guessing regional prices. The policy-limit gap and ratio are calculated separately from an optional depreciation scenario and high-value-item sublimit check.
Worked reference example
Nine categories of 10,000 each total 90,000. A 75,000 contents limit leaves a 15,000 aggregate gap; a 5,000 jewelry sublimit against 10,000 entered creates a separate 5,000 sublimit gap.
How to use the result
Use room-by-room photos, serial numbers, receipts and current like-kind replacement prices. Review scheduled property, business property, off-premises limits and exclusions separately.
What the calculator cannot know
This is not a rebuilding-cost model or claim settlement. It does not determine policy eligibility, valuation wording, pair-and-set treatment, depreciation by item, taxes, debris removal or local price inflation.
Frequently asked questions
Should I enter purchase price or replacement price?
Use current like-kind replacement cost for the coverage check and preserve purchase evidence separately.
Does the policy limit guarantee payment?
No. Coverage, cause of loss, sublimits, deductibles and valuation terms still apply.
