Total dated and overnight shifts after entered unpaid breaks, keep workweeks separate, show decimal hours, and optionally estimate simple regular and overtime pay.
Each valid shift is measured in the selected wall-clock or elapsed-time mode, entered unpaid breaks are deducted, and counted minutes are allocated to the chosen workweek before pay is estimated.
The pay output is a planning estimate, not a payroll record or legal overtime decision. Daily overtime, multiple rates, bonuses, withholding and employer rounding rules are outside this model.
Required fieldsFormula v1.0.0Result + assumptionsCounted hours include only the shifts and break treatment entered; paid breaks remain in time and explicitly unpaid breaks are deducted.
Each selected workweek is totaled separately, so overtime is never created by averaging hours across two weeks.
The optional pay estimate uses the entered hourly rate, weekly threshold and multiplier; confirm actual payroll rules and rates independently.

Enter both calendar dates and clock times. The calculator subtracts valid, user-designated unpaid break intervals from each gross shift interval; paid breaks remain in counted time. Quick break minutes are available when an entire shift stays in one workweek. For a shift that crosses a workweek boundary, use dated break intervals so each side receives the correct deduction. Overlapping shifts or breaks are flagged before totaling.
Counted minutes are summed separately for every selected workweek, then divided by 60 to show exact-derived decimal hours. An optional simple pay estimate applies your hourly rate, chosen weekly threshold and multiplier separately to each workweek. It does not average two weeks or use rounded display hours as the pay input.
A shift from 22:00 on October 2 to 06:00 on October 3 is eight gross hours. With a 30-minute unpaid break it counts as 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.5 decimal hours. Five such 7.5-hour shifts total 37 hours 30 minutes. For a 45-hour week at 20 per hour, threshold 40 and multiplier 1.5, the simple gross estimate is 40 × 20 + 5 × 20 × 1.5 = 950.
For full spreadsheet date-time values, gross decimal hours are (end-start)*24; subtract entered unpaid break minutes divided by 60. A MOD(end-start,1) shortcut can lose whole days. A spreadsheet alone also does not resolve ambiguous or nonexistent local times when clocks change.
Wall-clock mode treats entered local dates and times as ordinary arithmetic. Elapsed mode resolves actual instants in the named IANA time zone: a New York 01:30–03:30 shift on March 8, 2026 spans 120 wall-clock minutes but 60 elapsed minutes. A repeated local time on November 1, 2026 requires an explicit earlier or later choice. This tool does not infer a time zone from abbreviations such as CST or from your device.
Workweek boundaries are the selected dated start and time. In elapsed mode, choose local-calendar boundaries or a fixed 168-hour span anchored at the selected first start instant. Legal workweek, break and overtime rules vary; the tool reports the convention used rather than deciding legal entitlement.
For a shift crossing midnight, enter both calendar dates and place each unpaid break on the date it actually occurs. If the shift also crosses a workweek boundary, dated break intervals keep the deduction in the correct week. The overnight shifts and breaks guide walks through that timeline before the pay estimate is applied.
No. Only breaks you explicitly mark unpaid reduce counted minutes; check your applicable rules and employer policy separately.
Yes. Add another dated row. Adjacent shifts are allowed, but overlapping shifts are rejected.
